The Complete Budokan 1978 verzamelt beide concerten die Bob Dylan op 28 februari en 1 maart 1978 gaf in de Nippon Budokan in Tokio, tijdens zijn allereerste tournee door Japan. Waar het oorspronkelijke livealbum At Budokan destijds slechts een selectie bood, brengt deze box alle 58 uitgevoerde nummers samen in een nieuwe mix door origineel geluidstechnicus Tom Suzuki. Dylan herschikte in deze periode veel van zijn klassiekers in weelderige, bijna revue-achtige arrangementen — van 'Mr. Tambourine Man' tot 'Like a Rolling Stone' en 'Forever Young'.
