Careless Whisper is a song by British singer George Michael, released in 1984 as his first solo single while he was still part of the duo Wham!. Michael wrote the song together with Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley when he was seventeen. The song, with its distinctive saxophone riff played by Steve Gregory, is about regret and infidelity. In the United States it was released as 'Wham! featuring George Michael' and appeared on the Wham! album Make It Big. The single reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and on the American Billboard Hot 100, among other charts, and sold millions of copies worldwide. Michael produced the definitive version himself, after an earlier recording with producer Jerry Wexler in Muscle Shoals was set aside.
