"We Built This City" was a hit single by the American band Starship, released in 1985 and taken from the album Knee Deep in the Hoopla. The song was written by, among others, Bernie Taupin and Martin Page and became a worldwide number one hit. Starship emerged from Jefferson Starship, which in turn had its roots in Jefferson Airplane. With its glossy production and synthesizers, the song came to symbolise the arena pop of the mid-1980s. It became one of the best-known songs in the band's catalogue.
