After open-heart surgery and the end of a marriage of nearly twenty years, Keb' Mo' wrote the ten songs of The Breakdown, and that is how the album sounds: bare and close, mostly his guitar and his voice, recorded at his own studio outside Nashville. The five-time Grammy winner brought in guests on only a few songs, with vocals from the Soweto Gospel Choir and the gospel sextet Take 6. Fussing and Fighting preceded the album as its first single. The album was released on August 21, 2026 via Concord Records.
