Give Way captured the concert Pearl Jam gave on March 5, 1998, at Melbourne Park, during the Australian leg of the Yield tour and broadcast at the time by radio station Triple J. The performance was meant to appear in 1998 as a free companion to the documentary Single Video Theory, but the print run of 50,000 copies was almost entirely destroyed, making the surviving copies sought-after collector's items. Give Way is Pearl Jam's only official live album featuring drummer Jack Irons. The title refers to the Australian give way road sign, the counterpart to the American yield sign and a nod to the album title Yield. An official release followed only in 2023 through Legacy/Epic.
