Higher State of Consciousness was originally released in 1995 as a single by American DJ and producer Josh Wink, put out through Strictly Rhythm. The track was recorded at Wink's own Ovum Studios in Philadelphia and built on a distinctive TB-303 acid line combined with samples from Lyn Collins' "Think (About It)". Higher State of Consciousness reached number eight on the UK singles chart and also became a hit in Ireland and Spain. The Tweekin' Acid Funk version of the track became influential for both the emerging big beat and UK hard house scenes. Rolling Stone ranked the track number 128 in its 2022 list of the 200 greatest dance songs of all time. Higher State of Consciousness is regarded as one of the definitive acid techno classics of the 1990s.
