Brothers in Arms was Dire Straits' fifth studio album and originally dates from 1985. It was recorded at AIR Studios on Montserrat, built around Mark Knopfler's refined guitar playing. The production had a polished, partly digital sound, a new direction for the band. Money for Nothing, featuring guest vocals from Sting, became a US number one hit and received a groundbreaking animated video on MTV. Walk of Life, So Far Away and the title track were also among the album's best-known songs. The material ranged from ironic commentary on the music industry to a war-inspired closing track. Brothers in Arms topped charts worldwide and became one of the best-selling albums of the 1980s.
