Autumn Variations is a studio album by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, originally released in 2023, a few months after Subtract. It was his first album on his own label Gingerbread Man Records. Sheeran wrote the fourteen songs about the autumn of 2022 and the changing lives of friends around him, inspired by the idea behind Elgar's Enigma Variations, in which each variation portrays a person. The album was entirely produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, with whom Sheeran had also made Subtract earlier that year. Tracks such as 'American Town', 'Magical' and 'Plastic Bag' move between understated folk-pop and indie-tinged pop. The album entered the UK album chart at number one.
