World Painted Blood is Slayer's eleventh studio album, originally released in 2009 and produced by Greg Fidelman. Part of the material only took shape in the studio, out of riffs the band worked up on the spot. The lyrics tackle concrete subjects: Unit 731 deals with Japanese war crimes in Manchuria, Psychopathy Red with serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. It remained the last album with the original line-up; guitarist Jeff Hanneman died in 2013 and drummer Dave Lombardo left the same year.
