With her self-titled debut, first released in 1983, Madonna took her first steps into the danceable pop of the early 1980s. The album drew on the post-disco and new wave of the New York club scene, yielding early hits like 'Holiday', 'Borderline' and 'Lucky Star'. Much of it was produced by Reggie Lucas, with additional work by John 'Jellybean' Benitez.
