The Book of Souls is Iron Maiden's sixteenth studio album and appeared in 2015 as the first double album of new studio material in their career. Its generous running time makes room for extended compositions, the highlight being the nearly eighteen-minute 'Empire of the Clouds', written and played on piano by Bruce Dickinson and the longest song the band has ever recorded. Dickinson recorded his vocals shortly before being diagnosed with a tongue cancer, from which he subsequently recovered. Tracks such as 'Speed of Light', the title track and 'Death or Glory' carry the album.
