Ace of Spades is Motörhead’s fourth studio album, originally released in November 1980 on Bronze Records. Recorded by the classic line-up of Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor, it is regarded as the album where their speed, heaviness and rock ’n’ roll attitude come together most tightly. The title track, with its rattling bass intro and Lemmy’s growl about gambling and risk, became the band’s best-known song and a fixed closer at every show. Around it sit tracks like ‘(We Are) the Road Crew’, ‘Love Me Like a Reptile’ and ‘Bite the Bullet’. The album carried Motörhead out of the underground and to a wide audience for good.
