Abyss Calls Life was originally released in 1996 as the second album by Italian extreme metal band Necromass from Tuscany, recorded and mixed in December 1995 at Dracma Studios in Turin. The album followed the debut Mysteria Mystica Zothyriana from 1994. Necromass combined black metal and death metal with doom influences and darkwave, complemented by ritualistic keyboard parts and predominantly growls as vocal style. The album long counted as a sought-after work within the Italian metal underground.
