Live/Dead, originally released in 1969, was Grateful Dead's first official live album and one of the first live rock albums recorded on sixteen-track equipment. It captured the band in its element: extended improvisation rather than compact songs. The side-long "Dark Star" sits at its center, alongside "St. Stephen", "The Eleven", "Turn On Your Love Light" and "Death Don't Have No Mercy".
