Santana

Santana is the band guitarist Carlos Santana formed in San Francisco in 1966, tying Latin percussion to blues rock. The Woodstock performance in 1969, with Soul Sacrifice, came a few weeks before the debut album appeared and put the group on the map at once. Abraxas followed, with Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen and Oye Como Va, then the rougher Santana III and the turn towards jazz rock on Caravanserai. In 2000 Supernatural, carried by the single Smooth, won the Grammy for Album of the Year and brought the name to a new generation. Through all of those periods, Carlos Santana's singing, sustained guitar tone remained the constant.
