Midway through the sessions for Synkronized, bassist Stuart Zender left Jamiroquai, after which Jay Kay had the album re-recorded with new bassist Nick Fyffe. The band's fourth studio album, originally released in 1999, blends funk and acid jazz with disco: opener 'Canned Heat' rests on Chic-style strings and a stomping four-on-the-floor beat. It also features 'Supersonic', 'Black Capricorn Day' and 'King for a Day', whose lyrics refer to Zender's departure. It is the last Jamiroquai album with didgeridoo player Wallis Buchanan. The closing track is 'Deeper Underground', the single that a year earlier became the band's only UK number one.
