Paul's Boutique is built almost entirely from samples. The Dust Brothers stacked hundreds of fragments on top of one another, from The Beatles and Curtis Mayfield to Johnny Cash, a construction that later sample-clearing rules would have made unaffordable. On release in 1989 sales fell short after the success of the debut. Its standing grew afterwards, and Rolling Stone included the album in its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. 'Hey Ladies', 'Shake Your Rump' and the nine-part suite 'B-Boy Bouillabaisse' show how far the trio had moved from the party noise of Licensed to Ill in two years. This edition is a 2-LP on black vinyl, released as an anniversary edition.
