Three years after To the Faithful Departed the band returned in 1999 with Bury the Hatchet, their fourth studio album, produced by The Cranberries themselves together with Benedict Fenner. 'Promises' opens with hard-struck guitars, while 'Animal Instinct' and 'Just My Imagination' stay closer to the melodic side of the band. Storm Thorgerson's sleeve shows a giant eye above an empty landscape, photographed in Monument Valley.
