For Project Hail Mary, the film adaptation of Andy Weir's novel starring Ryan Gosling, Daniel Pemberton relied mostly on physical instruments and samples rather than synthesizers. He recorded sixteen people clapping and stamping as body percussion, used the cristal baschet, ondes martenot, and glass harmonica for texture, and set large choirs against them. Even a leaky, squeaky tap, recorded on an iPhone, found its way into the score. Pemberton had previously worked with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who direct here, on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote of "the moving solemnity and celestial dimensions of Daniel Pemberton's beautiful score". The score was released in 2026 on Milan Records and was recorded at studios including Abbey Road Studios and AIR Studios in London.
