Money Jungle brought three generations together: Duke Ellington at the piano, Charles Mingus on bass and Max Roach on drums, recorded in New York on 17 September 1962. The session was known for the friction between the three, clearest on the title track, where Mingus plays straight across Ellington's chords. Set against that are restrained pieces such as Fleurette Africaine and Warm Valley, plus trio readings of Ellington standards like Caravan and Solitude. The album originally appeared on United Artists Jazz in 1963.
