Bongo Fury is the only official recording of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart on stage together. After years of falling out, Don Van Vliet joined The Mothers in 1975 as singer and harmonica player for a short tour; most of the album comes from two nights at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas, filled out with studio recordings from the Record Plant. Van Vliet delivers his own texts on 'Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top' and 'Man With The Woman Head', while 'Debra Kadabra', 'Advance Romance' and 'Muffin Man' show the band at full tilt. The album originally appeared in October 1975 on DiscReet Records. This edition is a 2-LP, expanded with bonus tracks for the fiftieth anniversary.
