Songs to No One documents the early collaboration between singer Jeff Buckley and guitarist Gary Lucas, with recordings from 1991 and 1992 that originally appeared as a compilation in 2002. Lucas, previously a guitarist in Captain Beefheart's band, wrote the songs 'Grace' and 'Mojo Pin' with Buckley during this period, both of which later ended up on Buckley's 1994 debut album Grace. The collection combines studio and live recordings, including early versions of both songs and material with Lucas's band Gods and Monsters. These recordings are among Buckley's earliest documented work in New York, before his breakthrough as a solo artist. Buckley died in 1997 at the age of thirty, making these sessions a rare glimpse of the beginning of his short career.
