On Closer, Joy Division move from guitars towards synthesizer and drum machine, and towards slow, cold spaces. 'Atrocity Exhibition' opens with tribal drums from Stephen Morris, 'Isolation' runs on a tight electronic pattern, and 'Decades' and 'The Eternal' close the band's second and final studio album almost solemnly. Martin Hannett produced again; Peter Saville built the sleeve around a photograph of a tomb. The original album came out in 1980 on Factory Records, two months after the death of singer Ian Curtis. The second disc holds a concert from the University of London Union on 8 February 1980. This edition is a CD.
