The first song Lizzy McAlpine wrote for Angel, The Light in the Painting, came together in May 2024 backstage in San Francisco, during the tour for Older. Angel became her fourth studio album, released on September 18, 2026, on RCA Records. Between the two albums she spent more than a year on Broadway as Nellie Collins in the musical Floyd Collins. In Los Angeles she worked again with Mason Stoops and Taylor Mackall, who also worked on Older. The influences run from 1970s Laurel Canyon folk to contemporary indie, and the lyrics deal with love, heartbreak, and friendship. Alongside The Light in the Painting, Ugly Things was released as a single, and Fleet Foxes appear on Soldier of the Road. The cover, made with paint and sidewalk chalk by tidy.totes, is her first album cover that does not show her face.
This edition is a 2LP on Coke Bottle Clear vinyl, the limited Looking Glass edition with a poster.
