Promise Of The Real is momenteel een van de meest getalenteerde en veelgevraagde rock-n-roll bandjes en baarde vooral opzien als begeleidingsband van Neil Young. Maar in Lukas Nelson, de zoon van Willie, hebben ze zelf een meer dan capabele bandleider/songwriter/zanger en gitarist in huis. Nelsons ster is snel rijzende, zeker na zijn succesvolle samenwerking met Lady Gaga voor A Star Is Born. Bad Case, de spetterende opener en eerste single van dit nieuwe album, laat meteen horen wat Lukas in huis heeft, en de rest van het album houdt hij dat hoge niveau vast. POTR zijn waardige opvolgers van Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, maar doen soms ook denken aan The Travelling Wilburys, zoals in het door Roy Orbison geïnspireerde Where Does Love Go, een van de vele hoogtepunten op dit fantastische album. Andere hoogtepunten zijn de country-rock stomper Civilized Hell (een duet met papa Willie) en het funky Save a Little Heartache, met achtergrondvocalen van Kesha.

This is Lukas Nelson at his best: as a songwriter, a singer, a guitarist and band leader – an artist at the peak of his powers, backed by Promise of the Real, his nimble and dexterous brothers-in-arms, one of the most talented, in-demand rock and roll ensembles working today.
Recorded at Shangri-La in Malibu and the Village Studios in West L.A., Turn Off The News (Build A Garden) was co-produced by Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real and John Alagia, who helmed the group’s previous effort in 2017. The band: bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony Logerfo, percussionist Tato Melgar, multi-instrumentalist Logan Metz and Lukas Nelson, worked fast recording 30 original songs during brief breaks between tours. They tracked straight to analog tape, keeping overdubs to a minimum while focusing on the live performances. Vocal and instrumental contributions from friends and family include Margo Price, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Micah Nelson, Kesha, Shooter Jennings, Randy Houser, Lucius, Madison Ryann Ward, Hunter Elizabeth and Neil Young.
