Seven young men from Camden Town recorded One Step Beyond in roughly three weeks, with Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley at the desk. The title track is an instrumental take on a Prince Buster B-side, the same source the band took its name from. What follows is My Girl, Night Boat to Cairo and Bed and Breakfast Man: short, hurtling ska tunes with horns, music-hall piano and lyrics about girlfriends, landlords and life on the street. The debut reached number two in Britain and then stayed on the album chart for over a year. It originally appeared in October 1979 on Stiff Records.

This edition is a limited LP on white and black vinyl, pressed in a run of 1,000 copies.
