For Street Fighting Years, their eighth studio album, Simple Minds largely traded synthesisers and sequencers for slide guitar, accordion and a Celtic folk sound. Producers Trevor Horn and Stephen Lipson steered that course; the album was recorded in Scotland during a period of line-up changes. The lyrics are openly political, with songs such as Mandela Day and Biko and subjects including the poll tax and the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Belfast Child became the band's first and only UK number one single, and the album gave them their fourth consecutive number one on the UK Albums Chart.

This edition is a 2-LP on green vinyl, the National Album Day edition.
