Songs in the Key of Springfield collects the music from the early seasons of The Simpsons: 39 tracks of songs, fragments and score taken from the series itself, originally released on 18 March 1997 on Rhino. Most of it was written and arranged by Alf Clausen, who also supplied the liner notes together with Matt Groening. Well known pieces include The Monorail Song from Marge vs. the Monorail and See My Vest, Mr. Burns' Beauty and the Beast parody, alongside short gags and instrumental motifs that define the sound of the show. It is a compilation drawn from the series, not an album of newly written material.
