Diabolus in Musica is Slayer's eighth studio album, originally released in 1998 through American Recordings. Jeff Hanneman wrote the bulk of the material and tuned his guitar down, which produced a thicker, more groove-driven sound than the thrash albums before it. Bitter Peace, Death's Head, and Stain of Mind show that approach; Stain of Mind also ended up on the soundtrack of the film Bride of Chucky. The title refers to the tritone, the interval known in medieval music theory as the devil's interval, which turns up regularly on the album.
