Leve Het Levenslied gathers recordings by Tante Leen (Helena Kok-Polder, 1912–1990), one of the best-known performers of the Amsterdam "levenslied". Together with Johnny Jordaan and Willy Alberti she brought the Jordaan song to great popularity in the 1950s and 1960s. This collection brings together her sentimental repertoire, sung in the Amsterdam dialect, with songs about love, loss and working-class city life. The levenslied is characterised by melodramatic lyrics and singalong melodies, accompanied by accordion and orchestra. The compilation places Tante Leen within the tradition of classic Dutch popular song.
