After disbanding the first line-up of The Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa made Hot Rats, an almost entirely instrumental album recorded in Los Angeles on one of the first sixteen-track machines. Ian Underwood plays most of the horns and keyboards, Don 'Sugar Cane' Harris and Jean-Luc Ponty add violin, and Captain Beefheart sings the one track with lyrics, 'Willie The Pimp'. The opening piece 'Peaches En Regalia' became one of Zappa's most performed compositions and returned in live versions for the rest of his career. The album originally appeared in October 1969 on Bizarre and Reprise Records. This edition is an LP.
