Judith Owen’s previous work has tended to the arch; but Ebb & Flow is a sincerely straightforward delight, an album with its head and its heart firmly stuck in the Laurel Canyon of 1971 (not even the 1970s in general). Her own songs, which are the bulk of the album, sound like a lost Carole King songbook, and a James Taylor cover fits right in, even if Mungo Jerry’s “In The Summertime” has worn less well.
