Met The Purple Album keek Whitesnake terug op de drie jaar die David Coverdale bij Deep Purple doorbracht. De band nam nummers van Burn, Stormbringer en Come Taste the Band opnieuw op, met Reb Beach en Joel Hoekstra op gitaar, en zette klassiekers als Mistreated en Soldier of Fortune naast minder gespeeld werk als Lady Double Dealer. Het album verscheen oorspronkelijk in 2015. Voor deze Special Gold Edition uit 2023 werd het volledig opnieuw gemixt en geremasterd, rond vijftig jaar nadat Coverdale bij Deep Purple aansloot.
