Early in 1967 Aretha Franklin left Columbia for Atlantic and travelled with producer Jerry Wexler to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals. One song was finished there, the title track, before the session broke down in an argument; the rest she recorded in New York with the same rhythm section. The album originally appeared in March 1967 and holds her version of Otis Redding's Respect, which became her first number 1 hit, alongside Dr. Feelgood (Love Is A Serious Business), Do Right Woman, Do Right Man and Save Me. This is the record that made her the Queen of Soul.
