Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin grew up in her father's church in Detroit and recorded gospel there at fourteen. Her Columbia years, from 1960 to 1966, moved between jazz standards and pop, until she signed to Atlantic in 1967 and I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You turned her into the Queen of Soul. Lady Soul, Aretha Now and Amazing Grace followed, the last of these recorded in a Los Angeles church and still the best-selling gospel album ever made. In the eighties she returned to the charts on Arista with Freeway of Love and the George Michael duet I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me). She won eighteen Grammys, was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and died in 2018.

This collection brings together Aretha Franklin on vinyl, LP and CD: reissues of the Atlantic classics, the early Columbia recordings, gospel and compilations.
