Number 1 Angel originally came out in March 2017, the first of two mixtapes Charli XCX put out that year after a planned album fell through. She made it quickly with A. G. Cook, SOPHIE, Danny L Harle, Life Sim, EasyFX and John Hill, and it shows: sharp digital synths, hard drums and voices stretched far past the natural. Guests are everywhere, with MØ on 3AM (Pull Up), CupcakKe on Lipgloss, Uffie on Babygirl, ABRA on Drugs and Starrah and RAYE on Dreamer. With these ten tracks Charli XCX openly stepped out of the mainstream pop circuit and aligned herself with the PC Music collective.
