Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was Coldplay's fourth studio album and originally dates from 2008, produced by, among others, Brian Eno and Markus Dravs. The band opted for a broader and more experimental sound than on previous albums. Thematically, the album dealt with life, death, war and revolution. The cover featured the painting La Liberté guidant le peuple by Eugène Delacroix. The title track Viva la Vida became Coldplay's first number 1 hit in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Violet Hill and Lost! were other singles from the album. In 2009 the album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
