Symbolic is the sixth studio album by American death metal band Death, originally released in 1995 through Roadrunner Records. The album was written by frontman Chuck Schuldiner and produced by Schuldiner together with Jim Morris at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida. For the recordings, Schuldiner was joined by drummer Gene Hoglan, bassist Kelly Conlon and guitarist Bobby Koelble. Symbolic built on the progressive, melodic direction Death had taken with Human and Individual Thought Patterns, featuring more complex song structures and a greater focus on melody alongside the technical riffing. The cover artwork was created by Dan Seagrave, who had worked with the band before. The album includes tracks such as Symbolic, Zero Tolerance and Crystal Mountain, and was the band's penultimate studio album before The Sound of Perseverance in 1998.
