For the second Indiana Jones adventure John Williams chose a darker palette than for Raiders of the Lost Ark. The album opens with Anything Goes, the Cole Porter number Kate Capshaw sings in the opening scene, after which the score descends into the ritual choral writing of Children in Chains and The Temple of Doom. The mine car chase became one of the fastest pieces Williams ever wrote for film. The music originally appeared in 1984 and earned him another Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score.
