John Williams

John Williams wrote the music for many of the best known films in American cinema. After years as a studio pianist and television composer he broke through in the 1970s, and his work with Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T., Schindler's List) and George Lucas (Star Wars) brought the symphonic orchestra back to Hollywood. His themes for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter have long outgrown the films themselves and are played in concert halls around the world. He conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980 to 1993 and stayed on afterwards as laureate conductor. Williams has won five Academy Awards and collected 54 nominations, more than any other living person.
