Françoise Hardy

Françoise Hardy (1944-2024) broke through in 1962, at eighteen, with Tous les garçons et les filles, a song she wrote herself and that made her the face of the French yé-yé generation. She recorded her repertoire in English, Italian, and German as well, and worked with writers including Serge Gainsbourg, who gave her Comment te dire adieu in 1968, and Michel Berger, who wrote the music for the title track of Message personnel. From La question in 1971 onwards she sounded sparer and darker, and on Le Danger in 1996 she surrounded herself with guitar rock. Alongside singing she modelled for Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne, and published books on astrology. Her final studio album, Personne d'autre, appeared in 2018; she died on 11 June 2024, aged eighty.

This collection brings together Françoise Hardy on vinyl, LP and CD: reissues of her early Vogue albums, English- and Italian-language releases, later studio albums, and compilations.
