After the end of One Direction, Harry Styles debuted in May 2017 with a self-titled solo album that leans more towards seventies rock than towards the pop he became known for. It appeared through Columbia Records and opens with 'Sign of the Times', a ballad of almost six minutes that entered at number 1 in the United Kingdom; Rolling Stone named that song the best of 2017. The ten tracks run from the acoustic side, with 'Sweet Creature' and 'Two Ghosts', to the harder guitar work of 'Kiwi' and 'Only Angel'.
