A Night at the Village Vanguard is a live album by American saxophonist Sonny Rollins, recorded on November 3, 1957 at the Village Vanguard in New York and released through Blue Note Records. Rollins performed that night in a pianoless trio, a lineup without a chordal instrument that was unusual for the time. For the afternoon set he worked with bassist Wilbur Ware and drummer Elvin Jones, while the evening set featured bassist Donald Bailey and drummer Pete La Roca. The album includes tracks such as Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise, Striver's Row and Sonnymoon for Two. A Night at the Village Vanguard stands as one of the early examples of the pianoless trio format in jazz.
