Korn

Korn formed in Bakersfield, California, in 1993 and gave nu metal its shape: the seven-string guitars of James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch, Fieldy's clicking, slapped bass, and Jonathan Davis moving from a whisper to a scat to a scream inside a single song. The 1994 debut and Life Is Peachy (1996) laid the groundwork, Follow the Leader (1998) and Issues (1999) both entered the Billboard 200 at number one, and Untouchables brought a 2003 Grammy for Best Metal Performance with Here to Stay. The band then pushed at the edges, working with pop producers The Matrix on See You on the Other Side and with Skrillex, Excision, and Noisia on the dubstep album The Path of Totality. From The Serenity of Suffering (2016) onward the low, detuned riffs returned; on The Nothing (2019) Davis worked through the deaths of his wife and his mother, and Requiem (2022) was written and recorded during the pandemic.
