Follow the Leader took nu metal to a mass audience. For the third studio album Korn changed producers, working with Steve Thompson and Toby Wright instead of Ross Robinson, and pushed the sound wider and harder. Got the Life and Freak on a Leash became MTV staples, the latter largely for Jonathan Davis's scat vocal and the video in which a bullet travels through a suburb. There are guests: Ice Cube on Children of the Korn, Fred Durst on All in the Family, and Cheech Marin on the hidden closing track Earache My Eye. The album originally came out in August 1998 through Immortal and Epic Records, entered the Billboard 200 at number one with 268,000 copies sold in its first week, and went five times platinum in the United States.
