With Tubthumper the British anarchist collective Chumbawamba traded the punk of the eighties for sing-along pop with dance rhythms, and the result was a worldwide hit. Tubthumping, the song about getting back up after every fall, went to number 1 in Canada, Ireland, Italy and Australia among others, and Amnesia also became a top 10 hit in the United Kingdom. The band's eighth studio album, originally released in 1997, was their first on a major label, after One Little Indian had turned the album down because of its new sound. Beneath the cheerful surface the lyrics are still about class and society, and between the songs you hear samples from films, TV and BBC Radio 4's Shipping Forecast. In the United States the album went triple platinum.
This edition is a 2-LP, with extra tracks on side four, including Top of the World (Olé, Olé, Olé) and Bella Ciao.
