In 1970 Eric Clapton hid behind a band name: Derek & The Dominos, with Bobby Whitlock on keyboards and vocals, Carl Radle on bass and Jim Gordon on drums. Their only studio album was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, with Tom Dowd producing. Dowd was also working there on The Allman Brothers Band's second album, which is how Duane Allman came by; his slide guitar and his duels with Clapton shape much of the album. The double album puts originals such as Bell Bottom Blues, Anyday and the title track next to blues standards such as Key to the Highway and Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out, plus a version of Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing. Clapton wrote many of the love songs for Pattie Boyd, then still married to George Harrison. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs was originally released in November 1970.
This edition is a 2-LP on blue vinyl.
