Variations on a Dream, from 2003, is the third album by The Pineapple Thief and marks the end of the solo period: shortly after its release Bruce Soord decided to turn the project into a real band and added the definite article to the name, to avoid confusion with Porcupine Tree. Musically it sits between the raw early experiments and the more compact songs that followed, with 'We Subside', 'Vapour Trails', and 'The Bitter Pill' among the highlights. Kscope reissued the album in 2023 in a new Soord mix, remastered by keyboard player Steve Kitch.
