For their third album, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers went to New York. At Sigma Sound, Ziggy, Stephen, Sharon and Cedella Marley, four of Bob Marley's children, recorded Conscious Party with Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, the rhythm section of Talking Heads, as producers. Their bandmate Jerry Harrison plays Hammond organ, and Keith Richards plays lead guitar on Lee and Molly. Ziggy wrote most of the songs, and the singles Tomorrow People and Tumblin' Down became the album's best-known tracks. Conscious Party was originally released in 1988 on Virgin and won the 1989 Grammy for Best Reggae Album.

This edition is an LP, with We a Guh Some Weh added at the end. That track originally appeared only on the CD version.
