In the summer of 1963 The Beatles had their own BBC radio programme, Pop Go the Beatles. This single contains recordings from the session of 1 June 1963 at the BBC Paris Studio in London, where the band recorded material for the second and third episodes. Twist and Shout is the exception, as it was recorded on 17 June at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios. Between two versions of the theme tune are Love Me Do, From Me to You, Chuck Berry's Memphis, Tennessee and Twist and Shout. It was at the Paris Studio session that magazine publisher Sean O'Mahony suggested to manager Brian Epstein that the band should have its own monthly magazine.
